Zytek is a Proudly South African organization, and has its offices in Bedfordview, Gauteng. Our staff compliment boasts over 40 man years in software development and delivering solutions for the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. This product range, Orbit™, is the culmination of Zytek’s experience in the market place.

At that time a Vansales application was written for Denny Mushrooms using a portable Husky Computer. This system enabled truck drivers delivering mushrooms to shops and restaurants. This ability allowed the drivers to sell the product directly from the trucks and final invoices from portable printers directly to the client. On return of the delivery round the collected data was downloaded onto a PC where all invoice information was reconciled into their financial system.

The system grew alongside our client list and developed into a full Stock Management system with full Vansales and Ordertaking abilities on hand held computers.

Although all of our client’s requirements were similar, every customer had their own specific requirements. These requirements were catered for by our own in house development team.

In 2001 the system functionality and its ability to grow was constrained by the operating system and the decision was taken to rewrite all the software components. After 2 years of rewriting and testing on a Windows platform, the new system Orbit™ was rolled out to selective clients. One of our largest clients, Ola, a business unit of Unilever, was the first customer to take advantage of the new system. Within 8 months 24 concessionaires had successfully upgraded to Orbit™ and were now taking advantage of all the new features and speed benefits allowed by the Windows operating system.

Zytek has developed several applications and enhancement to the system since then and continues to develop other applications using a mobile platform. Solid partnerships have been formed with the larger hardware vendors in this niche such as Intermech, Psion/Teklogix, and Symbol.

With explosion and user acceptance of PDA devices, our applications, especially in the Vansales and Order taking environment, now also run on these devices offering the client a wide range of solutions to their mobile computing requirements.

Zytek has been very successful and consistent over the past 19 years and relies heavily upon the dedicated and skilled staff that has become part of the company. Our future success will be built around supplying clients with the mobile tools that they need to make their business processes more efficient and profitable.
